In 2000 Esther Shalev-Gerz continued her series Irreparable by producing Irreparable 87 in Rennes, France. Several years below the 17th century Brittany Parliament building had been razed by fire and was rebuilt as a simulacrum of the original in the 1990s.
At this moment, when it is suggested that the past may re-enter the present and once again, through repetition re-occupy the same representational space, Shalev-Gerz manipulated a photograph of the Parliament retained as a negative. Into the fissures cut into this image she inserted fragmentary images of a contemporary local social housing project.

En 2000 Esther Shalev-Gerz poursuivit la série intitulée Irréparable en réalisant Irréparable 87 a Rennes en France. A la fin du 17eme siècle le Parlement de Bretagne fut détruit par le feu. Une reproduction de l’original fut érigée dans les années 90.
Cette anecdote suggérant que le passé peut réintégrer le présent et, par la répétition, occuper à nouveau le même espace de représentation, Shalev-Gerz décida de retravailler une photographie en negatif du batiment. Dans des fissures dont elle entailla l’image l’artiste inséra des fragments d’image de la façade d’un logement social contemporain.
