Stone mosaic
On the ground of the courtyard of the future Vilnius City Museum, Inseparables Vilnius, two large mosaic roses share a common petal.
One enters the building walking between the real flowers and the mosaic of the canina roses, between Nature and Art. The new Museum once was the botanical gardens. The rose petals echo the color of the facade.
I created a common petal making those two roses inseparable as Art can propose new bridges between humans and plants and their corresponding particular histories.
The bond between the two flowers, that is simultaneously artificial and natural, awakens the memory of the different forms of connection that have marked the seven hundred years history of the city housed in the Museum where bonds are formed between people of different origins, histories, beliefs and different ways of thinking in different times.
Like the wind of history, the common petal offers a path to encounter the Other.
The “Rosa jundzilli Besser” is a hybrid rose that was created in 1816 by crossbreeding the gallica rose and the canina rose, both present in different European countries. It was introduced here, in Lithuania, in Kirdiejai Palace that became the University botanical gardens, where exotic plants were gathered. The flower was immediately rebaptized with a Lithuanian name. The artist herself, born in Vilnius, was moved by this idea of adoption.
