Although we have a clear mental image of a tree – its 3-dimensional form unfolding into space with both lightness and density above us – it also resists the catching of its image whether through painting, photography or video. Here the drama of it being cut to heal opens the possibility of driving the spectator’s imagination into its structure and its loss.
On the other hand, in terms of moving images, Vertov and Eisenstein suggest that it is in fact the cuts and editing that create the spectacle of a film and not necessarily the filmed material alone. In Form proposes a visual voyage into the notion of the cut and the tree to interrogate perceptions versus conception.

Bien que nous ayons une image mentale claire de la forme d’un arbre et de ses trois dimensions qui se déploient dans l’espace avec légèreté et densité au-dessus de nos têtes, cette expérience commune résiste à la capture de son image par la peinture, la photographie ou la vidéo. Ici la scène spectaculaire de l’élagage destiné à soigner un arbre ouvre la possibilité d’entrainer l’imagination du spectateur à travers sa structure et sa perte.
D’un autre côté, en terme d’images animées, Vertov et Eisenstein suggèrent que ce sont en fait le cut et le montage qui créent la dramaturgie d’un film et pas nécessairement le matériel filmé au préalable. In Form propose un voyage visuel dans la notion de cut et dans la représentation d’un arbre afin d’interroger le rapport entre perceptions et conception.
